Coleman Medallist Tom Hawkins says a player of Joe Daniher's quality would only help Geelong as clubs become "increasingly resigned" to the prospect the key forward will request a trade away from Essendon.

As reported this week, Daniher has an offer on the table from Essendon, which is quietly confident he will stay but don't want to rush the goalkicker into making a decision.

7 News Melbourne reporter Tom Browne on Tuesday night said trade sources were "increasingly resigned" to a Daniher departure.

Browne said Sydney and Brisbane were "interested to an extent" in Daniher, with the Lions' finals focus possibly playing a role in Daniher's delayed decision.

A restricted free agent, Daniher has also been linked with the Cats.

And should Daniher opt to leave Tullamarine and nominate Geelong as his preferred club, Hawkins said he'd support the move.

"We're always interested in bringing quality people and great players to our club," Hawkins told reporters on Tuesday.
