Blues' six-way battle for key position; new rule sparks selection headache: Origin Scout

The first game of the 2021 State of Origin series is just over a month away and while Queensland appear relatively free of disruption, the same cannot be said for New South Wales.
A host of big-name players have picked up injuries and will be desperate to get back on the field to prove themselves to selectors, with a six-way battle for a key position looming.

Meanwhile, both teams have a serious headache prompted by a rule change this season.

Injuries and suspensions have left a host of stars racing the clock to prove themselves before Origin I.

For the Blues, Cameron Murray, Nathan Brown, Ryan Papenhuyzen and Zac Lomax are all sidelined while Latrell Mitchell is serving a suspension.

Queensland, on the other hand, are much more settled.

Blues advisor Greg Alexander though told NRL.comhe does not think injuries will play a key role in who is selected.

Rather, he said that "as long as they get back and get at least one game in before the side's picked, I don't think these injuries will have a major impact whether they get selected or not".

Victor Radley has caught Alexander's attention with his strong return from a knee reconstruction and is right in contention for a spot in Brad Fittler's team.
