RICHMOND coach Damien Hardwick has launched a stunning defence of star forward Tom Lynch, while attacking Melbourne champion David Schwarz's character as a player.

Schwarz led a chorus of criticism directed at Lynch after the Tigers spearhead received two separate $1000 fines for striking in Richmond's win over Gold Coast on Monday night.

It came less than a fortnight after Lynch received a $500 for misconduct for pushing Lion Alex Witherden's head into the Metricon Stadium turf in round 10.

Schwarz labelled Lynch a "goose", "knucklehead" and said he needed to "stop trying to be something you're not" on 3AW this week.
