Seattle Kraken defenseman Mark Giordano and Columbus Blue Jackets center Boone Jenner are the NHL's newest captains, each being named this month.

Five teams enter the 2021-22 season without captains: the Arizona Coyotes, Calgary Flames, New York Rangers and Ottawa Senators haven't named replacements for players traded or lost in the expansion draft. And the Buffalo Sabres stripped center Jack Eichel of his captaincy this summer as he and the team are involved in a dispute over his health.
