French Open: Barbora Krejcikova ends American Coco Gauff's historic run

Greece's Maria Sakkari upset defending champion Iga Swiatek and Czech Barbora Krejcikova ended American teen Cori "Coco" Gauff's historic quest for a Grand Slam in two quarterfinal matches Wednesday at the French Open.

Krejcikova dispatched of Gauff in 1 hour, 50 minutes to advance to the semifinals in Paris. She fired five aces, 27 winners and converted four of six break points in the 7-6, 6-3 win on the clay surface of Court Philippe-Chatrier.


"I'm obviously disappointed that I wasn't able to close out the first set," Gauff told reporters. "To be honest, it's in the past, it already happened.

"After the match, my hitting partner told me this match will probably make me a champion in the future. I really do believe that."
