Donald Trump just sent a shot across the bow of our two closest neighbors. In a series of Truth Social posts, Trump said that he would slap 25% tariffs on all goods from Canada and Mexico. Interestingly, he also threw China into the mix, yet with a lower tariff rate of 10%. "Both Mexico and Canada have the absolute right and power to easily solve this long simmering problem," Trump said. "We hereby demand that they use this power, and until such time that they do, it is time for them to pay a very big price!" In other words, as the businessman that he is, Trump is flexing his enforcement muscles with an eye toward getting a deal done that will serve both America's interests as well as Canada's and Mexico's.
