What's New on Hulu in October 2021

Your chance to hear "Wildest Dreams (Taylor's Version)" on the small screen is almost here.
I'd say October is going to be a rough month for the people behind the big pharma companies largely responsible for the United States' opioid crisis, given that Hulu is debuting a hard-hitting documentary series exploring the harm that horrific business has done in the world, but, oh, they're billionaires with immunity from prosecution, so they'll probably be fine.

Still, hopefully Dopesick (Oct. 13), an original documentary series inspired by Beth Macy's bestselling book digging into the roots of America's latest drug crisis, will do even more to blacken the names of these cartoon villains, who definitely don't deserve the benefit of the doubt. (Side note: If you'd asked me in 2002 to imagine the future career of nerdy supporting character Jonathan from Buffy: The Vampire Slayer, I would not have said "an award-winning screenwriter and producer of a hard-hitting documentary series," and yes, I am sure he is sick of people bringing this up.)

If you want to temper your anger with some lighter fare, Hulu is taking aim at The Great British Baking Show with Baker's Dozen (Oct. 11), a competition show that pits pro bakers against amateurs (hold please while I add this to my queue). And then there's Spirit Untamed (Oct. 31), a CGI animated film about girls and horses, which I only know about because its soundtrack will be home to Taylor Swift's rerecorded version of her song "Wildest Dreams." The whole deal with why Swift is rerecording her first six albums is too much to get into here, but it's definitely the only reason I know this movie exists (well, that and the legions of Taylor Swift fans on Twitter), despite having a young, horse-inclined daughter. I like the new version of the song a lot! The movie looks... fine.

Here's everything else coming to (and leaving) Hulu in October 2021.
