The United States records its 12 millionth case of the novel coronavirus on Saturday, as millions of Americans rejected calls and warnings from health officials to refrain from traveling on Thanksgiving to stem the spread of the infection.

More than 12,010,000 cases of the coronavirus were reported on Saturday, according to a Reuters tally of public health data, capping a series of days with record-breaking infections, with the Midwest experiencing one of the most dramatic increases in cases per capita.
